It’s Been A While
As subscribers to my Pause Blog, you may have noticed that things have been pretty ‘quiet on the western front’ in recent months.
Back in December of 2023, my husband received a serious health diagnosis. In March of 2024, he started treatment. When something like this happens, it turns your world upside down. That’s certainly been the case for us.
Suddenly, so many things that seem so important in ‘normal times’ (travel, ambition, projects, blog posts) fade into the background. What matters more than anything else is health and relationship. That’s been our focus for well over a year and continues to guide our days.
Treatments continue – and our days roll along. We try to be as present and loving as possible – embracing each moment without fretting too anxiously about the future.
I have continued to facilitate a few programs for clients. And I have been doing some writing – but mostly personal updates for friends and family.
I’ve also made art when I had the energy for it. Since September, I’ve painted as per usual on Mondays with my Artists’ Workshop group. They’ve been an awesome support to me (as have so many friends and family). Continuing to engage in creating art has been a healthy and welcome distraction from everyday challenges at home.
I write this now to explain the absence of messages here on this website. It’s not that I haven’t had things to say or share, it’s that other priorities for the use of my time have stepped to the forefront.
This is also to let you know to expect a brief flurry of messages this month in the lead up to our annual Artists’ Workshop Spring Show & Sale the last weekend in April. More on that in future messages.
In the meantime, stay close to those you love and let them know you care.
Pat and Dave,
Sending so much love and well wishes your way. We miss travelling with you and you are welcome back anytime! We trust that it has not been easy for you both. Our many mutual and international friends have been keeping us updated and I am happy to read your blog today. I am looking forward to doing some watercolours in the spring on tour, thinking of your inspiration, always.
With a huge hug to you both from Fernie,
Corinne and Natascha
HI Natascha and Corinne. Lovely to hear from you. Thanks for your kind words and care. This last year has not been easy – but we’re doing our best and making as many memories as we can. I recall with fondness our travel adventures. Hope traveling is in my future again at some point. With love, Pat
I’m so sorry to hear about your husband’s health. I think I can speak for your followers when I say that we are with you sending healing thoughts and energy – and that you don’t ‘owe’ us any updates (but thank you for providing one). Be well.
Hi Lori. Thanks so much for the kind words and support. The care we have received means so much to us both. All the best to you as well, Pat
